UV offset
printing, step up from the conventional printing press, a rubber
blanket acts as an intermediary, transferring the image from the plate to the
final product’s surface. This is the best, most effective
method for high quality commercial
printing.
However, there have been relatively recent advancements and variations on this
procedure. Chances are you have seen them on brochures, leaflets, book jackets,
signs, and advertisements of all shape, size and nature.
One of these variations is
UV offset printing. In this
printing method, UV light is shone on the wet ink in order to affix it to the
product’s surface. One might wonder what the advantages of taking this step
are.
First, there is less time spent waiting for the ink to dry than in other
processes where evaporation or absorption are used. This results in faster
production, and greater ability to do large commercial printing jobs. Second,
the ink is cured onto the surface by the UV light – a process called
polymerization. This creates a more glossy, scuff-resistant product. Third,
there are no foul odors or harmful bi-products produced while the ink sets.
Fourth, the UV offset printing procedure creates images of higher quality than
conventional offset printing.
